Paintings in Hospitals

Description of initiative

Paintings in Hospitals works across England, Wales and Northern Ireland and care for 3,700 artworks in their collection, many by world-famous artists. They use their collection to inspire art walks, artist projects and creative activities. And work side-by-side with patients and care staff to help create care spaces that are encouraging, enriching and empowering. Paintings in Hospitals works with 315 healthcare and social care organisations. All types of care organisation can borrow from their art collection, and everyone is welcome to participate in the talks, tours and workshops. Their collection is the first and only art collection available to be borrowed by any health and social care site in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. This includes, but is not limited to: hospitals, hospices, care homes, GP practices, healthy living centres, SEN schools, dental surgeries and mental health facilities. They reach areas around the country through our regional showcases. These showcases are special care partner sites that display large portions of the art collection as examples of good practice. They showcase the four different loans programmes. Paintings in Hospitals loans programmes are aimed at specific audiences such as Children and Young People, and Older People.
